Welcome to our pottery studio at the foot of the South Downs in Ditchling, East Sussex.

The Ugly Barn is a small, friendly communal pottery studio, where potters can get together to work in a supportive atmosphere whilst sharing ideas and learning from each other. Based at Wick Place, on the outskirts of Ditchling, The Ugly Barn is a converted old farm building and is surrounded by fields and vineyards.

MONDAYS TO FRIDAYS

9am - 6pm, other times with prior arrangement

Open Studio :

Come and have a look at our studio, see what we are busy doing and have a chat.
We currently have 4 wheels so can usually only accommodate a maximum of 6 people at a time, on the condition that 2 people are busy with hand building. However due to the Covid-19 restrictions at the moment, we can only accommodate 4 people maximum in the studio.
Slots are booked by the hour and are charged at £8/hour, with an additional £6 per kilo glazing/firing costs.
Here is the perfect opportunity to gather some friends and get creative in our relaxed and friendly studio.

All potters using the studio need to have had previous experience and be able to work independently.

TASTER SESSIONS (2 hours):

Maximum 2 students at the moment, due to social distancing guidelines.
The sessions include learning about earthenware and stoneware clays, how to prepare them for throwing and a step-by-step demonstration on the wheel followed by personal instruction. It is an intensive session and costs £70 for one person, £130 for two people and £160 for three (once social distancing rules relax).
